He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed academic papers in geology and paleontology, independently published 2 monographs geology and paleontology in English, co-published 1 monograph in Chinese on paleontology and paleoecology of the Ordovician carbonates in the Tarim basin, published 1 academic paper in core journals of economic theory, and published 24 current review articles in newspaper Science Times. He has presided over more than 20 scientific research projects such as National Natural Science Foundation projects and Major Special Projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, with a total fund of more than 10 million yuan. In 2009, he won the highest honor award of the Paleontological Society of China, "Yin Zanxun Stratigraphic and Paleontological Award". He supervised a total of more than 10 master students, doctoral students and postdoctors  including Zou Jianbin, Jiang Hongxia, Liu Lijing, Chang Xinling, Zhao Rui, Liu Qingsong, Liu Ling, Zheng Lijing, Li Yang, Zhang Yueyang, Sun Xiaofang, Jiang Ziwen, Li Ying, Zhang Lu, Hua Beilei and Sha Zhuofei

His Research Experiences

(1) biopetrology, (2) calcareous sponge fossils, (3) cyanobacterial fossils, (4) Permian-Triassic transition environmental and biological evolution, (5) conodont biostratigraphy, (6) carbon isotope stratigraphy, (7) dolomite genesis, and (8) clastic rock and carbonate diagenesis.

His Academic Achievements

(1) Established the theories of reef fabric facies, community facies and diagenetic facies,

(2) Established the method to quantitatively calculate the amplitude of ancient global sea level change based on reef,

(3) Discovered the sedimentological evidence of the global sea level fall event at the end of the Permian Period for the first time,

(4) Revealed that the microbial rocks in the Permian - Triassic boundary strata were formed by the cyanobacterium Microcystis blooms,

(5) Advocated the establishment of a new discipline of biopetrology,

(6) Led the organizing of the first International Biopetrological Congress.
